Ashante & Bruclin

Ashante & Bruclin

Our love story is a little bit of an abstract one as we both believe in magic and soul mates and live with our heads neatly nestled on a giant pillow in our castle in the sky. The first time we met was at a poetry night, but nothing much transpired from that, we then went from stalking each other, (running into each other around town,) to friends to dating, below is a message that my now husband wrote to me on a valentine’s day some years ago, for me it’s the easiest way to explain our story to you.

“Out there in this Universe is a door. A door that carries little freckled boys and girls to a garden of magic and possibilities. Where beautiful sea maidens, capture the heart of moon merchants, allowing their souls to fly, where we can dance on chess boards underneath the stars. Where popcorn trees are real. Where ‘Elephant Shoe You’, means so much more. Where sunflowers grow on walls, and brighten up your darkest of days and where little freckled boys and little freckled girls can sit in the sand pit all day and play for 700 or 7000 years Happy Valentine’s Day my love, hope to see you in the garden...

He proposed to me in the sky, we were sitting in one of the largest observation wheels in the world, it’s a breath taking beautiful Ferris Wheel that provides you with a 360 degree panoramic view of the mother city. It was there with the moon staring down at us in the middle of the sky that he went down on one knee; opened a little red door (the box) and asked me to join him on a new journey that could last us any time between 700 and 7000 years, with tears in my eyes I shouted YES! - Are you sure? Are you really – Yes Yes Yes!

Our rings where made by Adrian Meyer , the brides rose gold oval diamond halo ring, grooms ring a rose gold ring band with a black diamond in the center.

The weddings style was a French Vintage Victorian wedding, A Duchess marrying her Duke, the idea was to capture our love story through planning an exuberant affair set in a Victorian ballroom, with giant chandeliers, live music; ghost mint green tables, a cigar lounge, romance and strings on strings of pearls, heavy drapes and prevailing open heads of soft blush Ohara roses and soft pink Lizianthus all around the room.

Safari Court was our venue of choice as it allowed us to fully transform the room into ball happening at midnight in Paris in the heart of the 1919’s. The reception was dressed in soft blush Ohara roses and soft pink Lizianthus from Tamonika event.

I opted for a brooch Bouquet consisting of old Jewellery from friends and family, that I collected, I wanted to walk down the aisle with my “something old” - being pieces of jewellery worn by my mother, mother-in-law, sisters in law; girlfriends etc., I also handed it over to the longest married couple in the room of 33 years as a sign of respect to the institution of marriage, the bouquet was done by Tamonika events .

My Dress I created myself by using different elements of wedding dresses that I love! I then took my idea to lavender tales in Windhoek and they made it happen for me.

Eleven beautiful bridesmaids in total, the idea for them was opulence and old Hollywood glamour, satin, jewels and fur. Their dresses we got from Vanilla Confetti – Corlie is the best when it comes to large groups of ladies, professionalism and ease of mind and their makeup was done by Marike at Namibia Beauty also an expert in her field.

  • Walking down the aisle with my father
  • Giving my bouquet to the longest married couple in the room
  • The boys doing the dab
  • Dancing the night away with my mother
  • And off Couse saying I yabba dabba doooo

In terms of the wedding and planning to ask Tamonika events to take my hand and make my vison a reality. My bridesmaids sisters and saying yes to my 7000 year moon merchant.

Decide on what you want early, budget accordingly, set up a checklist for yourself, ask your bridesmaids early on so that they can help you where needed, as well as budget for what they will need to purchase for themselves. Try on as many wedding dresses as possible, have a bachelorette party and a pearl of wisdom and a spa day, go to couples camp, it’s a wedding camp here in Windhoek at Debra- it’s an eye opener, maximize on being a bride because it’s a beautiful journey to becoming a wife spoil yourself and allow yourself to be spoilt, think of the venues you want, set your date, think of your theme and call Frans from Tamonika events. Then on the day just glow and enjoy every single minute.
Give her everything she wants, just say yes to all and send her a small gift on the day earrings or perfume, get your guys sorted out early so they can budget too. Spend some time with your dad if you can, enjoy the day just as much as your bride and after you say I do, carry her on that silver platter and treat her like the queen she is.
